What I do, and what it costs

Most trade owners find out what the year was when the tax return shows up. By then the jobs are built and the cash is spent. Each package below is a way to see it while there's still time to act on it.

One time

Clean-up

For books that are behind or tangled. I empty the catch-all accounts, move crew pay and job costs into what each job costs you to build, and take out the duplicates.

Owner pay comes out of the P&L. If the chart of accounts needs rebuilding, I rebuild it. Then I reconcile and close every old month.

Quoted after a free call. It depends on how many months are behind.

How the clean-up works

Monthly

Books

Keeps the books right once they're right. I categorize every transaction, reconcile every bank and card account, and close the month by the 15th.

Every job is costed by fence type. I handle the 1099s at year end, and you get one 30-minute call with me each month to go over the numbers.

Up to 150 transactions a month
$650 a month
Up to 400 transactions a month
$1,250 a month
More than 400 transactions a month
$1,500 a month

What the monthly close includes

Monthly

Books + Controller

For companies over about $4M, running several crews, or with a lender or buyer reading the books. Everything in Books, plus a schedule showing which jobs are billed ahead of the work and which are behind.

I add accruals, a 13-week cash forecast, budget against actual, a package for your lender and a review every quarter.

Monthly, on any package

CFO time

A monthly meeting on the decisions the books point to: what to charge, which jobs to chase, when cash gets tight and what to tell the bank.

What I don't do

I don't prepare tax returns or take tax positions, and I don't do audits or reviews. I don't give legal advice or tell you how to set up your company. I never move your money; you approve and send every payment yourself.

I hand your tax preparer clean, closed books, which usually makes their part faster.

I don't run payroll. I make sure it lands in the right place in your books.

If you're at $400K and invoice twice a month, you don't need me yet. Keep the receipts and call me when you add a second crew.

Questions owners ask

Do you do my taxes?
No. I keep the books and close every month, and your tax preparer files the return from them.
When do I see last month's numbers?
By the 15th of the next month, every month.
Do I have to be in Michigan?
No. I work with companies anywhere in the US, by phone and video.
How do I know which package I need?
The free call tells you. You leave with a written list of what's wrong and what each fix costs.
